COMMUNITY IN SCHOOLS is only one of
several nonprofit organizations that spends millions to address the

“Congrats” Velencia Johnson
A “Graduation Galore” was
given in honor of Velencia Johnson by her parents, Victor and Marion
Thomas Johnson, at The Greer & Lowdermilk Conference Center, 4225
Interwood N. Parkway, on Saturday, June 25.
Proud father, Victor, said, “My beautiful daughter was born July 14,
1983 at the Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas. She is the youngest of
two children. She has an older brother, Marcus Johnson.” |

East Texas News
While we’re taking care
of all of our other business, it will be of the utmost importance to
(Black people) make sure we take care of our political business.
Elections come up every year that affect our lives and lifestyles. We
all have complaints about how things are being run by the government, on
local, state and federal levels. All of the complaining in the world
won’t do any good, if we don’t take care of our political business and
vote to make the correct changes. Forget the people who talk about
voting “doesn’t do any good,” and “my one vote won’t matter.”

Texans Support the Troops
Every once in a while,
someone in Washington asks me why we Texans have so much love for our
state. Is it the food, weather or culture?
While I love the food, weather and culture in Texas, the real reason I
am so proud of our state is its people. And I have no better evidence of
the character of Texans than an episode I heard about the other day at
the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. |
