“Lunch Bunch” served food for thought

It wasn’t exactly home cooking, in the strictest sense. None-theless, Roy Douglas Malonson, chairman of the Acres Home Citizens Chamber of Commerce (AHCCC), did, indeed, serve the “Lunch Bunch” an amble portion of food for thought when he spoke at the July 7, 2005 monthly (each lst Thursday) Business/ Network Luncheon, that was held at the Acres Home Center For Business and Economic Development’s Beulah Ann Shepard Building, 6112 Wheatley Street.

The reporter was White, and thought Leon Spinks, Ali’s opponent, a Black man, wasn’t too intelligent. He posed this statement and question to Ali. “I think Spinks is dumb, don’t you agree, Muhammad!” Ali looked at him and said, “If I agree with you, what are you going to think of me?” That excellent reply, by Muhammad Ali, should be the answer we give people who try to put down Black people and expect other Black people to participate in this madness!

Energy bill fosters independence and security

With oil prices hovering around $60 a barrel, the price for petroleum is over 50 percent higher now than it was last year. Energy affects every part of an industrial economy, from manufacturing and transportation to services. Petroleum is also the source from which we create plastics, adhesives and lightweight composite materials.

"My faith has been the driving thing of my life. I think it is important that people who are perceived as liberals not be afraid of talking about moral and community values."

- Marian Wright Edelman
