| Callin’ Out The Negroes By Dr. Safisha Nzingha Hill

Have you ever had one of those days where you
just felt like callin’ out Negroes and No-grows? You know the ones…those who
are destructive to the Black community...simply take up space and air. How
about the Negroes in key positions to make a positive difference in the
lives of Black folk, yet their priority is riding around high and mighty in
fancy, shiny cars, living in big houses outside of city limits, behind iron
gates where they are “the only ones” and proud of it?
These are the same Negroes who come from the “hood,” (the neighborhood), and
lose their last piece of Black mind once getting a little “ed-u-ma-ka-shun,”
returning from college as if they are the “better black folk” (when the
truth is they probably barely made it out). They move on up to the East Side
(or the North side), like the Jefferson’s and work hard to assimilate to
someone else’s culture.
The worst Negroes are in the education system. They are always making sure
other folks children learn, but degrade little Jamal and Keisha (the
children who are left behind), telling others outside the system nonsense
such as, “These black children just don’t want to learn and I am not going
to try to teach them anything, because they are lazy and trifling.” The so
called educators are more concerned with merit pay and benefits, than paying
attention to the children they are paid to teach and giving them the benefit
of the doubt. The ability to learn is despite any obstaclesthere, but
sometimes the will must be brought out. But then again, only a good and
sincere educator has the desire to make sure all children learn, especially
those left behind.
We find the Negroes at the collegiate level as well, and sadly, at too many
of our historically black institutions. They are busy trying to fatten their
pockets, rather than work to provide a strong, academic, culturally
enriching, and socially balanced learning environment for the students
paying tuition, as well as their salaries. We already know there are Negroes
in the pulpit needing to be called out. The so called “men of God” usually
show up sooner or later on the evening news for violating little girls or
boys, or somebody’s Mama. Sometimes they get caught on the DL with Brotha
so-n-so.
The bottom line is folk just need to be humble, and do the right thing.
There is no need to get so high and mighty that you forget yourself and try
to correct Bigmama when she talks. Someone said every Negro is a potential
Afrikan, and if this is true, then there is hope once Negroes are called
out. They just might end up doing something good in the community, rather
than going around causing havoc and embarrassment.
Remember, “You reap what you sow (what goes around comes right back and
bites you in the tail), and never forget, Aluta Continua, “the struggle
continues.” |
