Johnson Promises Community Approach and to Foster Achievement by Changing Stereotypes Hindering African American Children

Newly elected Fort Worth Independent School District, Dr. Melody Johnson, said the community and district will share the responsibility of raising African Americans and Hispanics’ academic standards and future achievements.
She is promising an aggressive improvement plan to incorporate a collaborative approach to include parents, the community, African American churches, businesses and district.

Coalition for the Advancement of Civil Rights: Organization Stresses Voice, Action and True “People Power”

The Coalition for the Advancement of Civil Rights responded and worked diligently to ease tensions between the African American community and McKinney police, after Black residents cried out for justice when officers made threats and ran roughshod over their rights. “The people are where we get our power from,” said CACR Founder and President Lee Alcorn. “This organization exists to give African Americans a place to come to address the things the NAACP will not and are not able to do without fear of intimidation.”

 

65TH ANNIVERSARY YEAR WITH FIRST ALPHA BEAUTILLION

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Beta Tau Lambda (Fort Worth Alumni) Chapter kicked-off its 65th Anniversary Year with its First Alpha Beautillion, at the Dee J. Kelly Alumni Center on the campus of Texas Christian University. The Master of Ceremonies for the evening was the Honorable Glenn O. Lewis, Former State Representative and Fraternity Member. The program was the culminating event of an eight-month Mentoring Program that recognizes male High School seniors from the Ft. Worth/Dallas area for their academic and community service.
