Beware of the Cultural Masturbator

By Dr. Safisha Nzingha Hill Adeleke

I recently had a conversation with Baba S-Ankh about Negroes going around pimping the culture for their personal satisfaction and financial gain, and folk I had always categorize among the verbal masturbators. However, Brotha suggested they were in fact, cultural masturbators. So, I pose the question, are you or someone you know a cultural masturbator?
These negroes are easy to spot to the culturally trained eye. They often have the so called “Afrocentric look,” meaning they may wear their hair in locs, or on special occasion “Afrikan clothes.” They show up at some Afrikan focused events to be seen and perhaps even heard. They boast about what they do in the community, but never have any “proof of purchase.” Certainly, many have the “gift of gab,” and often can impress even the real Afrikan centered folk, as they are very convincing in talking the talk. After all, they have practiced the trade for years and some even have it down to a science.
Cultural masturbators love to be on center stage with the spotlight shining directly on them, despite who else is on the stage. They want to seem important. They are good actors and will likely support or go against a situation, if standing to personally and financially benefit. They became intimidated and envious by anyone whose mere presence overshadows theirs, and sometimes claim credit for ideas, concepts and results which they had no influence on at all. Cultural masturbators are usually not involved in any real Afrikan grassroots movement, because they need to survive on the plantation and wave the “multiculturalism” flag for those outside the culture to see.
I would usually by now suggest it’s time to gas up the drop squad van and make a few runs through the community. However, the One and the Ones will handle these cultural masturbators. They are also disrespecting Ancestors when pimping the culture. Cultural masturbators are often verbal masturbators and will verbally massage themselves to feel good, look better, and be put on a pedestal, so folk listening can look up to them in awe and amazement.
A cultural masturbator needs to chill, because folk are tired of you talking loud and saying, doing and nothing. The word is most likely out, and the few followers continuously impressed by your gab don’t have a life. Those seeing through you have figured out your game and don’t bother to deal. I bet you know the name of one or two cultural masturbators. You make a sour face, or snicker when hearing their names, because of knowing the real deal.
Remember this African proverb, “One falsehood spoils a thousand truths,” and never forget, Aluta Continua, “the struggle continues.”
