All of the negative
happenings constantly occurring to Blacks in this country makes you
wonder why more prominent African Americans aren’t speaking out on the
subjects. The late great Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. understood
during his nonviolent civil rights protests, we as a people could not
advance in this society without addressing the problems holding us down.
Rev. Dr. King was a Baptist minister willing to come out of the church
and into the streets to confront bigotry and racism in America. |

TSU celebrates Women's History Month
The Texas Southern
University Women's Studies program will celebrate Women's History Month
through March 31 with powerful testimonies from scholars, activists,
historians and students.
"We are very excited that a historian of Stephanie Shaw's caliber will
speak during our luncheon," said Merline Pitre, Ph. D., Dean of the
College of Liberal Arts and Behavioral Sciences.
Dean Pitre said Women's History Month opens a very important dialogue
that allows the nation to reflect on the many contributions women have
made to society. |

"Years
ago I recognized my kinship with all living things, and I made
up my mind that I was not one bit better than the meanest on the
earth. I said then and I say now, that while there is a lower
class, I am in it; while there is a criminal element, I am of
it; while there is a soul in prison, I am not free."
