Commissioner Retires
As the first African
American and woman to hold a seat on the Tarrant County Commissioners
Court, Dionne Bagsby blazed a positive trail for African-Americans and
set positive examples for many to build on for years to come.
In 1989, Bagsby entered a political area filled with racism, gender
biases and dominated by white males not open and willing to yield to
changing times or minority ideas and concerns. Some 16 years later, she
leaves office having changed the county’s political landscape and past
negative images of African-American with her quiet confidence and
tireless efforts. |
