Feature News

Commissioner Retires

As the first African American and woman to hold a seat on the Tarrant County Commissioners Court, Dionne Bagsby blazed a positive trail for African-Americans and set positive examples for many to build on for years to come.
In 1989, Bagsby entered a political area filled with racism, gender biases and dominated by white males not open and willing to yield to changing times or minority ideas and concerns. Some 16 years later, she leaves office having changed the county’s political landscape and past negative images of African-American with her quiet confidence and tireless efforts.

An American Hero

In a 45-minute celebration witness by many in the front of the Newly Constructed Austin City Hall building, Austin Mayor Will Wynn, along with many others dedicated January 12, 2005 as James Farmer Day.

  STATE NEWS

United in efforts to put a handle on what could be the toughest issue facing the legislature this year, Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst and members of the Texas Senate, on Wednesday, made a quick start in unveiling their plan for tackling the issue of school finance.
