Angels of Mercy
“Super Sisters” empower Black America |

“Even as slaves, African women attempted to shape the ‘peculiar institution’ in ways that allowed them to preserve their dignity and affirm their humanity. During the era of the American Revolution, many northern states abolished slavery or made arrangements for gradual emancipation. As a result of increased rates of manumission, rising rates of reproduction, and larger numbers of runaways, the free African women's population grew and many free Black women engaged actively in the abolition movement. |

Love built Beulah Shepard Center

|
BEULAH ANN
SHEPARD approves the life size photo presented
to her by Georgia Provost, of Provost, during
the "Grand Opening" luncheon. |
Insofar as I was a builder for most
of my life, I can’t think of a better way to honor a well
deserving person than immortalizing than name on a public
edifice. Therefore, I have no problem admitting that I had to
fight back tears of joy as I watched the Acres Home community’s
venerable political activist and Acres Home Citizens Chamber of
Commerce’s matriarch, Beulah Ann Shepard, revel in the glory of
the Grand Opening of the Acres Home Center for Business &
Economic Development @ 6112 Wheatley, on Dec. 2. 2004.

Houston has over 28,000 properties on the tax roles that are six or more years tax delinquency. Rick guesses that another 34,000 properties are one to six years delinquent. |

East Texas News
The late great civil
rights pioneer Fredrick Douglass who was a slave as a child during
slavery time in the U.S., once said this about slave owners he worked
under. “The worst most brutal slave owners were those who were suppose
to be Christians or religious people.” The way Douglass described it,
the so called religious slave owners would not only beat you for
breaking “their laws” or the plantation, but they also felt obligated to
beat you for “ spiritual transgressions”. |

gather and distribute information among the CBC members. Once again,
Congresswoman Lee will join the CBC elected leadership, including the newly
elected Chairman, Mel Watt (D-NC), in garnering support for key legislation
and bringing members of the CBC together in support of a strong CBC and
