As The World Turns

“Everything changes but change itself,” is an often-misquoted proverb that’s attributed to Heraclitus (540-475 B. C.), the Greek philosopher who actually expounded, “There is nothing permanent but change.” Nevertheless, at first glance, the truism appears to be a straightforward observation, but the more you analyze it, the more complicated and/or profound it becomes.

PUBLISHER’S ANALYSIS

One of the unexpected perks I’ve gotten from writing Publisher’s News Analysis is a better understanding of the system. I’m forced to look at the world with a whole lot more scrutiny, to objectively analyze news and issues, than I did, before being talked into writing a column from a Black newspaper’s publishers perspective that usually negatively impacts the system’s movers and shakers.

Dallas Names Newest High School To Honor African-American Civic Leader and Education

Dr. Emmett J. Conrad

As a young man growing up, State Sen. Royce West counted on Dr. Emmett J. Conrad to purchase newspapers from him each week.
He remembers many notable words of encouragement from Conrad, who considered the education and achievement of young African-Americans and working to increase opportunities for youth in the community to be among one of the top priorities of his life’s work.

Condi Poised to Make History

Nearly two years ago the Bush administration froze out Yasser Arafat. Their reasoning was straightforward: Arafat had no real intention of facilitating peace. Stirring his people‚s hatred is how he kept himself in power.
In the post-Arafat era, the administration is again talking about the prospect of an independent Palestinian state. The person who will lead the historic accord will be the newly appointed Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice.

East Texas News

Now that the elections are over, it's time to get back to normal life. Although my candidate for president didn't win, I think the positive thing that came out of this election was the mass participation of young African Americans in the political process of America, which greatly affects their lives. From major rap moguls such as Sean "P.Diddy" Combs and Russell Simmons to grass root community leaders, the message to get out and vote was spread by any sources. On the strength of that improvement along with the already established voting block, we have a lot to be optimistic about in 2008.
