All Six Austin School Bond Propositions approved


 
 Austin voters gave overwhelming approval to the Austin School District’s six bond propositions totaling $519.5 million. The election win will enable AISD to:

1. Build nine new schools and 92 additional classrooms to relieve over crowding.
2. Renovate existing campuses and facilities.
3. Purchase land for future schools.
4. Upgrade campus security measures.
5. Purchase low-emission school buses.
6. Refinance District debt.

The election returns Unofficial count showed a total of 26,369 votes cast.

Voters approved the propositions as follows:


* Proposition 1 —Relief for Overcrowded Schools/Provision of Equitable Facilities District wide
FOR — 76% AGAINST— 24%

* Proposition 2 — Academic and Building Infrastructure Renovations to Safeguard Inve- stments in District Campuses, Facilities and Sites and Invest in Environmental Health Initiatives and Standards FOR — 76% AGAINST — 24%

* Proposition 3 — Safety and Security, Environmental Health, and Districtwide Facilities
FOR — 76% AGAINST— 24%

* Proposition 4 — Athletics and Physical Education Including the Efficient Utilization of Taxpayers’ Dollars Through Sharing Facilities Among Governmental Entities Relief for Overcrowding and Partial Funding for a District wide Performing Arts Center
FOR — 71% AGAINST — 29%

* Proposition 5 — Relief for Overcrowding and Partial Funding for District wide Performing Arts Center
FOR — 68% AGAINST—32%

* Proposition 6 — Refinancing of Contractual Obligations
FOR — 72% AGAINST— 28%
The citizen groups who charged up the Bond Election was salted by President Vadez.

* The Citizens Bond Advisory Committee and its tri-chairs, John Blazier, Sheryl Cole, and Vince Torres.
* The Committee for Austin’s Children and its four chairs, Gus Garcia,
Melissa Knippa, Willie Mae Kirk, and Jim Marston.
* Members of the Community Safety Task Force and the Interscholastic Sports Task Force.
The Bond Initiative was endorsed by Education Austin, the Austin
Council of PTAs, the Greater Austin Chamber, the Hispanic Chamber, and other community and business groups.
Mr. Valdez, joined by his fellow Trustees — Ave Wahrmund, Vice
President, District 4; Pat Whiteside, Secretary, District 6; Cheryl
Bradley, District 1; Rudy Montoya, Jr., District 2; Johna Edwards,
District 3; Mark Williams, District 5; Robert Schneider, District 7; and John Fitzpatrick, At-Large Position 9 — thanked the voters for “caring about our community’s children — and for their faith in us.
