William Hampton and Chef
Robert Fitzgerald Win at Taste of Jarvis
The third annual “Taste of Jarvis” held on
Friday, August 27, proved to be a successful affair with approximately 70
people in attendance. Participants got a chance to taste the various
delectable dishes that were prepared, which were not your normal everyday
dishes. Entries ranged from California gumbo, rum cake, to fried ribs.
Winners for the event were Mr. William Hampton, who scored big with his
delicious cheese cake in the individual category; and Chef Robert Fitzgerald
of Fish Hawk Pointe Restaurant, who provided an awesome and tasty dish
called “Funky Mango Chicken Linguini,” in the restaurant category. Each was
presented with a trophy and can maintain bragging rights for the best cook
until next year.
Others who won with tasty dishes that many enjoyed were Stanley Statser, who
placed in the individual category with two dishes. His dishes were Low Carb
Zucchini with Spicy Beef (2nd place) and Low Carb Mushroom Chili (3rd
Place). In the restaurant category, Billy Wright of Sodexho Dining Service,
Jarvis Christian College’s food service vendor (last year’s winner) placed
second with Wright’s Fried Ribs and Bread Pudding with Special Praline
Sauce.
Judges for “Taste of Jarvis” were Mayor Linda Childress of Big Sandy, Rev.
Bob Allison of Lake Hawkins, and Dr. Irving Allen, President of the JCC
Dallas Alumni Chapter.
Ms. Janice Sharpless said she was pleased with the event and thanked all the
cooks and people in the community who came out to support the “Taste of
Jarvis.” She noted that the silent auction provided an added flair to this
year’s affair. Ms. Sharpless hopes that the event will be even bigger next
year. |
