College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Grants


  Since January 2004 the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (COPHS) has received more than $900,000 in funding to support students and faculty research. The COPHS received two Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students Awards from HRSA, and a Medical Technology Award for $12,493. A Pharmacy Award for $650,000 was also granted to the college. The period of funding is from July 1, 2004 to June 30, 2005.
- NASA awarded a $264,449 grant to Dr. Theodore R. Bates (principal investigator) and Dr. Dong Liang (co-principal investigator) to conduct their research project Oral Absorption and Drug Interaction Kinetics of Quinolone Antibiotics in an Animal Model of Weightlessness.
-Dr. Xin Wei, assistant professor of chemistry, received a $10,000 two-year grant through the Texas Space Grant Consortium to study the development of advanced electrochemical biosensors.

- Dr. Danielle Arceneaux-Wiley, assistant professor of pharmacy practice, is the principal investigator of a $49,880 grant from the Harris County Area on Aging to assist clients with medication regimens and education. Working with Dr. Wiley on the project are Drs. Zulma Bueno, Ivy Poon and Melanie Lawson.
