African-American News&Issues, established in 1996 and targeting
African-American, readers is one of the fastest growing and largest
African-American owned newspapers in the United States.
• Circulation
African-American News&Issues is the widest weekly circulated Black
newspaper in Texas with a controlled circulation distributed every
Wednesday.
The paper is delivered to more than 100,000 homes and is available at
more than 5,000 locations, including chambers of commerce, churches,
organizations, barber & beauty shops, schools, funeral homes,
restaurants, public schools and libraries, college/university campuses,
select businesses-retailers-grocery stores, transit centers and various
downtown locations.

TEXAS TOLL ROADS
A Watchful Eye
CAMPO, The Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Orga- nization, primarily
composed up of City Council Members, County Commissioners and State
Legislators from the counties of Travis, Williamson and Hays recently voted
to implement a plan to toll patchwork of unconnected roadways in the said
counties.
The Plan Includes building Toll Ways on these existing roadways. LP 360, SH
45 South, SH 45 SE, US 183A, US183 South / SH71, US290 EAST and US 290 West.
One proposed project, US183 South/SH71 has been proposed to cost and
estimated $10, 322,000. It has been proposed to be completed by December
2007, and will construct main lane toll gantry at Cameron Road on US 183
(Toll Concept C1), Construct tolled main lanes on US 183 from Springdale to
Patton Lane (Toll Concept D1), and Construct and toll minimal mobility
improvements on SH71 to bypass signals between IH 35 and Presidential
Boulevard (Toll Concept E1). Below is the Austin District Task Force
Turnpike Projects Location Map of this proposed project.
Who will benefit from the funding proceeds from the projects? Is the overall
Texas Toll Roads Plans Designed to alleviate the current traffic problems?
Will the low-income communities have to pay an additional cost to get to
work within their own counties? |
