SBC Employees are Deranged
“Tired of being sick and Tired!”

“Tired of being sick and Tired” is a phrase that’s being said everyday by the little people or the hard working non white collar class. From the low paying jobs to outsourcing jobs that’s here in the U.S. to cheap laborers in countries like India and Philippines, is one of the main reasons that the people are sick. This explains why more than 100,000 union employees that work for the 2nd best local phone company was on strike for four days around the US in thirteen different states.

What put the strike in place was one, the outsourcing of 29,000 union jobs that was lost in the last three years and two, greed from the “fat cats” that sit in those nice leather chairs thinking of what new toy they are going to buy with their million dollars bonus. With more than three months of negotiating between (CWA) -Communicator Workers of America and SBC about job security and healthcare benefits it forced the union workers to show that they ain’t scared to do just more than talking, but to back their talk with the walk.

Speaking to 6 loyal employees standing outside the SBC branch office in Greenspoint off of Greens Rd. they told AAN&I that “the company shows no loyalty to longstanding employees that’s been giving consistent non stop work for the better of the company.” “We shouldn’t have to go through this so we can keep our jobs from being exported or so we don’t have to pay for our on benefits when the company profits over a billion a year”, they said. The ladies picketed outside the building with no fear and the dislikeness of the “scabs” (a non management worker that cross the picket line) until the strike came closer to the end.

With an estimation of 5 million union families that get phone service from SBC, the company had no choice but to come to some type of agreement with the union, so they would not start to lose their major customers. SBC agreed to a tentative deal that guarantees work for its more than 100,000 union employees and could cut outsourcing of jobs. The CWA members will vote in June on this 5 -year deal.

With faith in what’s right the people of the work force can come together and make these fat cats bow down to the people that’s making that company what it really is. Let the truth be told. Without those hard workers there wouldn’t be no SBC, McDonald’s, CenterPoint Energy or even the local Mom and Pops business.
