•You have problems with your electric service?

•You need to report a street light outage?
Call CenterPoint Energy at 713-207-2222 or 800-332-7143. We own and maintain
the power lines and restore your electricity when it goes out. Your retail
electric provider (the company that sends you an electric bill) contracts
with us to read your meter monthly and deliver electricity to you.
What do you do when:
.
•You have a question about your electric bill?
•You want your meter re-read?
Call your retail electric provider. Their customer service number is on your
electric bill. CenterPoint Energy does not sell electricity nor do we send
you an electric bill.
How do you transfer your electric service when moving?
Step 1: Call your retail electric provider and provide the address that
you're "moving to" and your original "moving out" address.
Step 2: Indicate the date you'll need electricity for the "moving to"
address and a date to end electric service at the original "moving out"
address. NOTE: Some cities may require occupancy permits, please check with
your retail electric provider to see if an occupancy permit is needed.
How do you get electric service for new construction?
Step 1: Call CenterPoint Energy at 713-207-2222 or 800-332-7143 to obtain an
electric service identification number (ESI ID) and to register for a meter
(you must allow two days for meter registration). During this phone call,
you should discuss permits that might be required. You may also be given the
name and number of a CenterPoint Energy service consultant to contact if
poles or transformers are needed at the new address. The consultant will
need to know the date you'll need electricity for the "moving to" address.
Step 2: Call your retail electric provider and give the new home address and
ESI ID number. Indicate the date you'll need electricity for the "moving to"
address.
How do you select or switch to a different retail electric provider?
Step 1: If you already have electric service, look for your ESI ID number on
your current electric bill. Your new retail electric provider will need this
number.
Step 2: Call 1-866-PWR-4-TEX (1-866-797-4839) or visit www.powertochoose.org
for a current listing of certified retail electric providers. For more
information about pricing and terms and conditions, contact the retail
electric providers directly.
Step 3: Once you've chosen a new retail electric provider, the switch will
take place the next time your meter is read unless you request a specific
meter read date. If you already had service with a different retail electric
provider, you are not required to notify them when switching. They will send
you a final bill. NOTE: Your retail electric provider contracts with
CenterPoint Energy to read your meter monthly.
