PURPLE AND WHITE SCHOLARSHIP GALA


   On a stormy Saturday night, the Phillis Wheatley Metropolitan Alumni & Ex-Students Association hosted the Second Annual Purple and White Scholarship Gala, at the Grand Room, 4442 Kelly Street, Houston, Texas. Rev. Jeffrey Latson _ 86, Pastor of the Bringhurst Street Goodnews Church served as Master of Ceremony.
The program begins with soft music (Elaine Jackson Williams _65), Invocation (James Matthews _65 Greetings/Occasion (Annie Jean Gilliam _54) and a tribute to honoree “I Accept the Challenge” (Krystle Liggins). Dinner was served and after the bountiful meal Presentation of Speaker (Eunice McMillan _77) Speaker of the Occasion (Vivian C. Blanks _77) Presentation of Scholarships (Carolyn Moore Wright _80), Acknowledgements (Iris Williams _ 75) and Expressions “Our Alma Mate” (Joan Shelvin White _56). Special guest from the Booker T. Washington High School Alumni helped to celebrate this great occasion.
“The purpose of PWMAS is to continuously help student at Phillis Wheatley High School further their education of higher learning along with intellectual assistance through out their college career.”
“The objective is to give multiple scholarships each year to deserving students from Phillis Wheatley High School that meets the criteria of Phillis Wheatley Metropolitan Scholarship Fund.”
This years recipient of Four Thousand Dollars Scholarships each were Tallahanisha Pickron and Willie Anders 2004 scholarship winner. (Chairperson Iris Williams _ 75 and Carolyn Moore Wright _ 80, Committee Members Lyndon Ashley _59, Arnetta Brock Johnson _ 54, James Matthews _ 58, Diane Williams _ 73, Jeffery Latson _ 86, Michelle Berkley Courtney _ 81, Eunice McMillan _ 77, Elaine Jackson Williams _ 65, and Isaac Williams _54
