GOLDEN TRIANGLE BY VIVIAN BROOKS TIZENO
It has been one-year since the Rev.
Donald R. Frank, Sr. assumed the reins as pastor of the New Hope Missionary
Baptist Church in Port Arthur. This historian first African American Baptist
Church got its charter in Port Arthur on August 12, 1906, and it has
continued to become a light in the community for 98-years. On this
Appreciation occasion, there are some recognizable changes that have taken
place under the leadership of our new pastor. Definitely, it is not a
physical change since all of the furniture and fixtures are exactly the
same. Yet, there is a calmness in the spiritual waters, an atmosphere
permeated with love. Spiritually, Pastor and Members have made a connection!
TO GOD, BE THE GLORY, FOR THE GREAT THINGS HE HAS DONE!
One of the key new ministries at New Hope is Bible Study: Power Lunch Bible
Study at 12 noon and Power Hour Bible Study at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesdays.
Another ministry, "Overcoming Trials Of Life," was offered as a study course
for 11 weeks, complete with Study Guide audio Video Lessons. Individuals
were presented with life crisis and how to deal with grieving. The Married
Couples Ministry is being planned.
The Rev. Delbert Mack, Sr., pastor of Beaumont's Cathedral Baptist Church
and his congregation were special guests for the 3:00 p.m. Appreciation
services. The Rev. Johnny Letman introduced the speaker. After Cathedral of
Faith Choir sang soul-stirring music, Pastor Mack delivered a heart-warming
message. He expressed that Rev. Frank had served well as assistant pastor of
Cathedral of Faith Baptist Church prior to his acceptance of the pastorate
of New Hope. "I strongly recommend him as one who has prepared himself both
educationally and spiritually. I believe in education, studying and
preparation, he stated. Also, he commended Rev. Frank for his spirit of
cooperation and his success as Pastor of New Hope.
The service began with a processional of the Pastor, his family, deacons and
trustees. Music, "We've Come This Far By Faith." Rev. Danny Antoine was in
charge of devotion. Bro. Lawrence Getwood was Master of Ceremony. The
welcome and occasion were given by Trustee Johnetta Londow.
Praise dancers gracefully performed. Expressions of two minutes each was
given by Youth Rachel Green, Sis. Sharon Clay with a historical prospective,
Bro. Farrell Johnson, a new member; and Deacon Ellis J. Wise, Jr. Special
presentation was made from the Church by Trustee Joseph Dickson. Bro.
Dickson expressed thanks to the Pastor for a successful year and all his
contributions to the church. During his one year as Pastor, seventy plus new
members were added to the church.
Pastor Frank stated that he and his family are thankful for an extraordinary
year at New Hope and we look forward to many, many more. "The Lord bless you
and keep you, The Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to
you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace." Numbers
6:24-26.
