HOUSTON– XI Chapter hosted the Twenty-Seventh Biennial Southern Region Conference in grand style at the Embassy Suites Houston Galleria during the Thanksgiving Weekend. The Southern Regions is comprised of eleven chapters in six states, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas. During the Opening Ceremony, State Flags were presented by Dr. Alma Allen, State Representative and Honorary Member of Eta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. to Dr. Melrose Haley, Southern Regional Director and Loretta Kirk Adair, National President.
Special Events and Recognitions included The Gwendolyn Andrew Breakfast Endowment Luncheon in which family members & friends remembered the legacy left by one of Southern Region Pioneers; and The Merits & Awards Luncheon in which Xi Chapter members honored Mrs. Lorene Blackshure (92), a charter member of Xi Chapter and active member of Eta Phi Beta Sorority for 51 years. Mrs. Blackshure shares this Distinguished Honor of “Fifty Plus Contiguous Service” in Southern Region with Mrs. Johnnie Hughes (53 Yrs), Eta Chapter and Lucy Foy (56 Yrs), Sigma Chapter. Xi, the Hosting Chapter proudly walked away with several Awards. Additionally, Brenda Allen of Xi Chapter was winner of the Coveted Honey Doll Award and was crowned “Miss Honey Doll 2013-2015” during the Hazel Parks Honey Doll Pageant, named in honor of Southern Region Director Hazel Parks.
