Mayor Jackson was born and raised in Luling. He graduated from Prairie View A&M in 1973 with a Bachelors of Arts Degree and was Commissioned an Ensign in the United States Navy. During his eight years of active duty, he served aboard the Nuclear Powered Cruiser USS Long Beach, the USS Coral Sea and the USS Inchon. He ended his active duty service at Prairie View A&M University in 1982 as Assistant Professor for Naval Science. In the US Naval Reserves he reached the rank of Captain.

Mayor Jackson stayed on at the University as Associate Counselor for Admissions. He has served many other posts and is now the Governmental Relations Officer.

Mayor Jackson has also served as an elected official for years. First he was on the City Council in Prairie View for 12 years, and then 8 years as Waller County Precinct 3 Commissioner. He was elected Mayor for the City of Prairie View, Texas in May of 2002, and has continuously served since.

Mayor Jackson has won many awards, and is the author of five books. He is known for his knowledge of the history and culture of the region, and has a knack for bringing an historical perspective to present day events.

The 36A region is becoming known as the Stephen F. Austin Corridor. There is a rich heritage and bright future for the residents of Brazoria, Fort Bend and Waller Counties. Mayor Jackson has been a popular, entertaining, and educational speaker at 36A events. We welcome him as our featured luncheon speaker, with his unique perspective on our past as well as our future.
