Bianca Henny receives full grant to Howard U
Miss Bianca Henny, a sophomore at DeBakey HSHP, will receive
a full grant to Howard University during the summer of 2003. Henny is a part of Post 0447
at her school and she credits her experience to the Health Career Exposition that she
attended in Bethesda, Maryland last summer. Howard University will track her academic
record until she graduates from high school. Exploring for Success, a division of the
Learning for Life Program, provides excellent opportunities for young men and women to
learn about challenging careers.
Their most recent activity involved a Health Career Exposition in Bethesda, Maryland on
August 1. Eleven students from 3 area schools attended the exposition. These participants
gained information and insight on a variety of career opportunities in health care. They
learned about exciting new developments in medical science and new technologies such as
genetic testing, virtual patient demonstration, and how to take tests. They
spent two-full days on the campus of the Uniformed Services University (USU) and one full
day at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). They also attended interactive workshops
and seminars focusing on major medical disciplines such as: allied health, medicine
laboratories, nursing, pharmacy, physician assistant, veterinary, dentistry, podiatry, and
chiropractic.
The skills and knowledge these participants gained during this exposition was invaluable
in preparing them for college. Exploring for Success would like to recognize everyone who donated to our District Friends
of Scouting (FOS) campaign. A special thank you to Mr. Matt Daniel, Vice President, Vaughn
Construction FOS Chairman and Mr. Robert Scharar, President, FCA Corporation. Your
contributions helped to make a dream come true.
