Foundation grants 2002-2003 scholarships

Twenty Tarrant County College students have been awarded scholarships through the TCC Foundation. The one-year old Foundation “has embarked upon a new mission of service – to give highly talented students and the faculty of TCC, the opportunity to excel and achieve,” said David Jackson, chair of the TCC Foundation Board of Directors.

“The generosity of endowed donors, faculty, staff, retirees and community benefactors and the foresight of long time supporters of the College and their families, are generating the financial base for deserving students to attend Tarrant County College,” Jackson added. Fourteen other students received up to $1,500 through the Tarrant County College Foundation Scholarship, awarded for the first time this year. The Mario Hernandez Memorial Scholarship will be awarded later in the fall.

Scholarship recipients are Lacrecia Aguilar of Grand Prairie; Blessing Akpom, Phyllis Carrier, Richard Glynn, Lydia Ihazah, Janet Dillon, Jennifer Minor and Melissa Underwood, all of Arlington; Alynda Bonham, Tamaris Cooper, LaTangila Dennis, Delora Evans, Njideka Ezukanma, Ashleigh Haggard, Christina Lillo, Brenda Robertson, Carolyn Stitch and Sonia Stovall, all of Fort Worth; Rocio Cervantes of Mansfield; and Vicki Claire of Cleburne.

“For more than three decades, Tarrant County College has served as the primary point of entry to higher education for hundreds of thousands of our friends and neighbors,” said TCC Chancellor Leonardo de la Garza. “The individuals receiving Foundation scholarships reflect the qualities of most TCC students – dedication, tenacity, leadership, commitment to achieve, and the drive to rise above and succeed, even when life’s circumstances are difficult.”  For more information regarding the TCC foundation, please contact Foundation Director Kay Casey at 817/515- 5277.
