Houston area musician releases new CD

The test of any aspiring artist in any given field is the ability to sustain.  As his theme of life, Darrell Rushing expresses the fact that, “With God in one’s life all things are possible.”  Darrell is an outstanding musician/composer in the field of gospel music.  His mastery of the organ, a unique and challenging instrument, exemplifies his expertise without fear of contradiction.  Pursuant of his music ministry, he has gained invaluable knowledge and experience in the areas of music publishing, conducting workshops, copywriting, and the preparation of numerous choirs for service in the ministry of music.

The development of his music ministry is his life’s goal. As a credit to his many accomplishments, he has recorded professionally with the late Rev. James Cleveland, president of the Gospel Music Workshop of America (GMWA). He has also recorded with the Texas Mass Choir, an organization that is composed of numerous chapters of the GMWA within the state of Texas.  Darrell, a native Houstonian, was consistently inspired by a loving and supportive mother, the late Mrs. Nevora Rushing.

He is currently serving as minister of music at the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, Houston, Texas, where the Rev. Kenneth K. Rose Jr. is pastor.  Darrell is founder-president of the Gospel Music Awareness Mass Choir Workshop, Inc., of Houston, and owner of Rushin-in Music, a gospel music publishing company. “I feel that gospel music is a continuation of the beginning of life.  Therefore, it is my objective to bestow upon every race, creed, and color the realization of the goodness, grace and love of Jesus Christ through my music endeavors.” he said.

Rushing continued, “Cognizant of the multi-faced talents possessed by many young Black musicians in the Houston area, it is my intention to encourage and promote their musical abilities, as I shall be eternally grateful to some very significant individuals in the music profession who supported my efforts and accomplishments-especially Minister Brenda J. Harland of Houston.” Rushing has made numerous recordings including the composition “I Owe it all to God,” that is still touching the hearts of many listeners.  It is a pleasure to announce the debut of his first instrumental CD titled “Amazing Grace” where he is featured on the Hammond B-3 Organ.  This CD features instrumental renditions of traditional hymns that includes “Amazing Grace.”

For Rushing, it is because of his faith in God: dedication to work, and constant searching for perfection, that a long awaited dream has become a reality.
