Shirley Ann Malonson, one of The Triumphant “7”

The Professional Black Women’s Enterprise, Inc. and The Institute for Careers and Leadership Development presented The Toombs-Brown Prestige Awards Gala, “The Triumphant 7 Fulfilling Their Dream” on September 27 at the Metropolitan Ballroom and Conference Center, 1801 Main at Jefferson. The mistress of ceremony for this event was Carmen Watkins from KMJQ Majic 102.

Dr. Carolyn Guidry, executive director, introduced the honorees who were escorted by the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. Carmen Carter, the director of Sister to Sister welcomed the honorees and guests to this event. La Dale Toombs-Brown the founder of PBWE, CEO & President, gave the organization’s history. Henry Terry, Young Eagle Entrepreneurs (Amanda Hampton, director) gave a testimony on how he started two businesses and the challenges he went through. Ashley Ta’mar Davis from Los Angeles, California dedicated a beautiful song called “Still I Rise” to the Triumphant 7. Pastor Kenny and Karen Washington of First New Hope Bible Church did a wonderful job presenting the honorees with their awards and certificates of congressional recognition from Councilwoman Shelia Jackson Lee.
A special appreciation award was given to State Representative Sylvester Turner and a video presentation called “Never Give Up” chronicled his life from a child growing up, to the man he is now. This presentation was given by the Honorable Helen Giddings, honorary chairperson and the State Representative from District 109 in Dallas. Throughout the evening, music was provided by the Texas Southern University Jazz Ensemble. Mildred Johnson, one of the Triumphant 7 honorees said, “I started my career on faith because I knew God would increase my knowledge, and I will continue to step on faith to teach the world to walk tall for Him.”


Shirley Ann Williams Malonson, another honoree stated, “For me, success was never to attain wealth or to become a celebrity. I wanted to be better, to challenge myself and to pursue excellence on every level.”


“We hope this evening is spirit filled and produce special memories for both the honorees and the many individuals whose tireless efforts have made this evening possible,” stated Toombs-Brown.
The evening ended with the members of the committee thanking everyone for coming out. In addition to Toombs-Brown, other executive board members include Vonceile Kirks-Tiller, vice president; L. Sann Robinson, administrative and financial secretary, Donna Bond, treasurer and Lillie Mae Veasley, chaplin.
