HOUSTON
Mayor Lee P. Brown today was honored with the Special Achievement Award by the National
Council for Public-Private Partnerships (NCPPP). This award was presented during at
NCPPPs 15th Annual Conference, held in Houston, where Mayor Brown provided the
Keynote Address.
Mayor Brown received this award for his innovative leadership in the creation of the
Houston Area Water Corporation (HAWC) and his efforts in the redevelopment of the downtown
Houston area. Public-private partnerships are a significant component in making each of
these projects possible.
I am pleased that the National Council for Public-Private Partnerships has
recognized these two projects, said Mayor Brown. Houston has many examples of
successful, innovative public-private partnerships, and we have worked hard to make them a
reality. I am very proud of the success weve had with downtown redevelopment and
with the creation of the Houston Area Water Corporation. They are examples of what can be
done with cooperation and hard work.
The conference will address the use of public-private partnerships at all levels of
government (federal, state and local). Houston was selected as the site of this meeting
because of the significant number of examples that the metropolitan area offers. Numerous
nationally recognized leaders in the field of partnerships, from both public and private
sectors, have been included in the program of the conference.
The conference participants will get an opportunity to see what else were
doing in Houston, said Mayor Brown. We have to work together to address the
challenges our communities face. Public-private partnerships allow us to accomplish more
than we could working alone. Call 202/467-6800 for more information. |
