The weekly luncheon for ministers and leaders in The Church of Christ, was hosted Wednesday, September 11, 2002, in Brookshire Texas, by the South Side Church of Christ, where Bro. Grant Davis Jr. is the pulpit minister, Johnny Crawford and Harold Lilly serve as elders and James Jones and Henry Coffman are deacons.  Under the gloomy sky aftermath of Tropical Storm Fay and on the remembrance day of 9-11, the work at the Brookshire Church of Christ was revived.
This work in the city of BrookShire, which is 7 miles west of Katy Texas, is the combined efforts of the Houston Area Churches of Christ, under the direction of the Elders at the SouthSide Church of Christ.  Before the door of the building opened, the interest in the city of Brookshire was very high; therefore it was not surprising to watch as past members and visitors made their way inside the building.

The curiosity of the Gospel has created a number of diversified classes from those in attendance. Arrangements are being investigated to see if there is a chance to even conduct and teach classes in Spanish for about five families in the immediate area.  A clear picture was formed in the minds of the members which were in attendance from the Southside Church of Christ, concerning the saying of Jesus in Matt. 9:37 “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the labors are few.”

Davis stated, “Our sincere thanks are extended to the many churches in the Houston Area that supported the work in Brookshire. We are grateful to God and the brethren of Brookshire for giving us the chance of reaching out to the souls in this area. A special thank you is extended to the ministers of each location, who have express to be directly involved with this work and either have or are in the process of arranging their schedules to help out in the job at hand.”

Grant continued, “A very special thanks is given to Theaster Maloy Sr. of the Fidelity Church of Christ, P.E. Stewart of the Brookhaven Church of Christ, and Robert Harper of the Highland Heights Church of Christ, for their direct advice in the negotiation of the facility.”
