National
Black Public Relations Society meets in Washington, D.C.
WASHINGTON D.C. - The men and women responsible for shaping and molding the images
of corporations, organizations and newsmakers nationwide will convene in Washington, D.C.
for the 4th Annual National Black Public Relations Society (NBPRS) Conference and Job
Fair, at the Wyndham City Center Hotel, October 3-6, 2002. More than 200 PR professionals
will gather to discuss ways to strengthen the industry, which is comprised of media
relations, public relations, public affairs, marketing, government relations and special
events planning experts.
The theme for this years annual conference, Public Relations-Power, Influence,
Change, reflects the continued commitment of public relations professionals to help
educate the public as technology increases the availability and reach of information in an
expanding global marketplace.
The leadership structure of the organization has been strengthened and now we are
focusing on recruitment, said Pat Tobin, president of NBPRS and Tobin &
Associates, a public relations firm in Los Angeles.
According to Deborah Hyman, conference chairperson and public relations manager for
Freddie Mac in Washington, D.C., this years event will help strengthen the careers
of PR professionals who work for corporations, agencies, local government, utilities or
have their own practice.
We have assembled an array of workshops that will help create the complete PR
professional, said Hyman. They are workshops that inform, educate and
entertain.
Students also will benefit from the conference and job fair as a special track has been
coordinated to assist them with securing entry-level positions and needed coursework for
the new millenium. Student workshops include Internship Options: Discovering Your
Career Path and Masters and More: The Benefits of Furthering your
Education.
