NWFL seeks expansion teams for Texas

The National Women's Football League, the largest full contact women's full contact football league is eyeing Texas as a place for several 2003 expansion teams. League owner and CEO, Catherine Masters feels that the time is right to make the move to the Lone Star State.
“Since we started this league two years ago, we've had interest from women who wanted us to place some teams in Texas. We were unable to accommodate them until now. Now that we've got the league up and running and feel good about the locations of our current teams, the time is right. There's a huge group of women who want to play full contact football in Texas and we'd like to give them the chance to do so,” she states.

The league is looking at the following cities as potential spots for teams: Austin, Tyler, Dallas, Arlington, San Antonio, Waco and Houston. Should there be interest from cities not listed, the league says they will keep an open mind. “Our goal is to bring the quality of our league to the cities that want us so we're not shutting any doors. If there's a city out there that we haven't targeted who wants to be in our league, we'll certainly hold discussions with them,” states Debby Lening, VP of Media and Marketing.

The National Women's Football League currently has 26 teams under contract and most recently held it's league championship. The Championship game was televised to more than 4 million homes.
