Say What?!

Good thing NOW doesn’t take you seriously

It’s a good thing that NOW (National Organization of Women) gives your newspaper a pass or doesn’t rate it important. They would rip apart articles like Bud wrote in other forums. It has to be one or the other because you know they wouldn’t agree with wife beating. Even if he didn’t come out and approve it, he gave it a wink and a nod.

Bud’s views are narrow and lacks intelligence
First of all, you are a major A_ _HOLE! Who gives you the right to voice opinions like the ones in your Iverson article? You obviously do not have a wife of your own, or maybe you do, and she is weak and simple minded like you. Any woman that lets a man put his hands on her is obviously a nutcase - and so are you. Your views are narrow and you certainly lack intelligence. I tell you what, maybe the women from the “The Big Nickel” let men hit them, and those are the women that you and men like you need to be with. Because I guarantee you that there are thousands of women in the Houston area who would be locked up if a nigga (nigga meaning ignent, not ignorant) put his hands on her. So you need to think about what you write before you have more enemies than the law allows. You honestly are a “Funky Mess” who needs to be cleaned.

Can any good come out of TSU? No - not in its present state
I really hate to be the one to inform The Honorable Robert Mohammed that his article, “Can any good come out of TSU?”, in the Aug. 21-27 edition had absolutely no merit and even less substance. It was easy to see where he was headed with that article. My guess would be someone promised him extra credit for his new classes he’s signed up. No, I for one do not have an ax to grind with anyone at TSU. I just stick to the facts. How do I know the facts you ask? My personal experience with TSU and hard evidence in dealing with them on a daily basis. There’s no way Mohammed can say that he doesn’t know what’s going on at TSU. Let’s review the turn of some recent events: Pharmacy students suing the university for receding their degrees. That’s under Slade’s watch is it not? Faculty members are disgruntled because the university didn’t adhere to its own hiring policy and practices in hiring a former city councilman for a job that clearly called for a degree and experience. That’s under Slade’s watch is it not? Employees frightened out of their minds recently when the university received four bomb threats in as many days and no one knew what to do about it. You’ve got recently built dormitories and the students are complaining because they’re deteriorating at the same fast-pace that they were built. We can brag all day long about the 40,000 graduates TSU produces. How many or what percentage do you know today are securing jobs in their respected fields of study. Many are settling for anything because the TSU degree is not respected at many places. We brag too about what percentage of teachers in HISD graduated from TSU. I’m not sure that’s a good thing. If we’re to be proud of our historically Black colleges and universities, we’ve got to make them accountable. All of those percentage that you’re rattling off and writing about have been tossed around since the Leonard Spearman days in the 1980s. The livelihood of any college is its academic programs. I didn’t see anything in your article about any rigor in the academic programs. Nor do I see anything in this publicity stunt for Slade that you masquerade as an image campaign. As with your grandmother Mr. Mohammed who used to say “what’s good for the goose, is good for the gander.” My grandmother says, “the chickens will come home to roost.” She had another saying that goes something like this: “What’s done in the dark, will come to light.” Yes, Minister Mohammed I knew something was wrong with your article when you used the names of James Douglas and Pricilla Slade in the same sentence. Next, you’ll be telling us to show respect for George H. Bush. Bush committed to raise $50 million for TSU’s capital campaign more than two years ago. Now we all know that if Bush wanted to raise $50 million dollars for TSU in two days- it’s a matter of a phone call. He’s putting a carrot in front of TSU’s to get his son elected for another term in office. We’re falling for it again. I agree that some good can come out of TSU. But will it in its present state? Emphatically, NO!
