Spoken Images presents fundraising extravaganza; members to represent Ft. Worth in slam competition

Spoken Images, an Emmy nominated conglomerate, presented the 2002 Ft. Worth Slam Team in a fundraising poetry extravaganza on July 20.  The event consisted of a spiritual enlightenment by Cedric Mercer, welcome by Stacey Williamson, introduction of the 2002 Ft. Worth Slam Team by Anthony Douglas, introduction of special guest by Sonia Williams-Babers, special guest performer, D.C. Cornish, a special presentation by Spoken Images and a performance by the Ft. Worth Slam Team. Closing remarks were by Janean Livingston.

The Ft. Worth Slam Team consists of Williamson, founder and CEO; and co-founders, Douglas, artistic director; Livingston, image coordinator; and Michael Guinn, public relations. In addition, other members are A.J. Houston and Adiah.Spoken Images is available to perform at award banquets, community events, weddings, church events, anniversaries, birthdays and family reunions.


Livingston is the grand slam champion of the 2002 Ft. Worth Slam team. She is also the CEO and founder of Sistah’s With A Vision,” a support group empowering African-American women. She is a professional performance poet specializing in motivational speaking, dramatic interpretation and helping her people reach a higher level of consciousness. She is also a founding member of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) a group of community activists.
Williamson is the runner up of the 2002 Ft. Worth Slam Team. She is a professional performance poet whose powerful dramatic performances empowers African-American women sexually, spiritually and emotionally. She is a member of the Zawadi Writers. Dubbed Queen of Erotica, she holds a Bachelors degree in social work from the University of Texas at Arlington.
Douglas is a Performance Poet, accomplished writer and author of numerous books and anthologies. His work embraces the human experience. His poetry transcends culture, religion and all socioeconomic conditions. As a member of the Zawadi Writers, he holds a Bachelors in Psychology with a minor in English from Texas Weslyan University.
Adiah (Angela Adams-Hemphill) is the youngest member of the 2002 Ft. Worth Slam Team. She is an active writer, performer and educator in the DFW area. She is an avid community activist who performs artistic ministries as a part of her outreach. She recently made a Spoken Word CD debut. She is also a member of the Zawadi writers and holds a BA in English from Texas Weslyan University. She is the author of several poetry books.
Houston who hails from Dallas, is a musician and a word artist. He is multi-published and also has a CD entitled ‘Love’s Season.” He has worked with the likes of Tina Marie and many other notables.


Guinn is the founder, Slam master and Slam coach of Ft. Worth Slams. His words can be seen, heard and felt in anthologies across the nation. He is a writer, poet and author of many books and is another member of the Zawadi Writers. He holds a Bachelors in Social Work from Stephen F. Austin and a Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Texas at Arlington.

Zawadi Writers is a group of African-American writers that began meeting regularly in 1994 at the Black Bookworm Bookstore. Members of Spoken Images represented Ft. Worth at the Slam Nationals in St. Paul Minneapolis.
