Golden Celebration as Minister of Fidelity Church, First Lady marks 50th Anniversary

Bro. Theaster and Sis. Annie Mae Maloy, Sr. celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary, on July 19, at Oakton Place, 5011 Griggs Rd., Houston, Texas.  When Theaster and Annie Mae became officially engaged in 1952, that decision to marry, marked the beginning of a commitment to each other that has spanned five decades.

To this union were born four children; Sandra, Perry, Theaster Jr. and Selwyn. The grandchildren are Brandon, Brandi, and Tiarmy; they also have four great grand children.

Bro. Theaster Maloy Sr. is the minister of the Fidelity Church of Christ, 140 Fidelity Road, with over 43 years of service and leadership to the community. The master of ceremony of the Gala was Bro. Royce Johnson who expeditiously moved the event along. There were musical selections by the Lemon Five singing group and Bro. Noah Wilson rendered the invocation.

Bro. Perry Maloy gave a warm welcome and the occasion to the large crowd, which had gathered for the celebration.

Bro. John Robinson gave the introduction of the guest at the head table. Then there was a special musical tribute to his father and mother by Theaster Maloy, Jr. and The Fidelity Chorus. The food was blessed by Bro. Raymond Thomas and dinner was served. The menu consisted of baked chicken breast, rice pilaf, green beans, rolls, and key lime pie (Mrs. Malloy’s favorite dessert).

After the multitude was fed, there were special remarks from Honorable Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee and a certificate of congratulations and best wishes was presented from the office of the Mayor, Honorable Lee P. Brown. Proclamations came by way of Houston City Council members Ada Edwards, Michael Berry and Carroll Robinson.

The speaker of the hour was Bro. Edgar Scott, retired minister of the South Union Church of Christ who always speaks with the wisdom of salt and savor. The honorees were enlightened with remarks from other ministers, Timothy Daniels (Trinity Gardens Church of Christ), Frank Melton (Shady Acres Church of Christ), Paul Jones (North Wayside Church of Christ), Royce Lemon (Third Ward Church of Christ), Elmo Adams (Crest Mount Church of Christ), and M.J. Coleman (Homestead Road Church of Christ). There were heart felt statements made by the brothers of the Fidelity Congregation and the benediction was given by Bro. Reginald Evans.
