Gods
Team Thomas is equally yoked
Rev. Eddie Thomas is an enthusiastic, very charismatic Baptist preacher who readily
admits he has a lot of ham in him. He says that if he didnt love God
more, his next choice would be acting. In comparison, Sis. Robbie Thomas is a rather
reserved musician, who is a perfect compliment to her outgoing husband. He often defers to
her solo after he delivers the message at various churches that keep him so busy with
guest appearances until he hasnt had time to consider becoming a pastor.
In essence, Rev. Eddie and Sis. Robbie Cowling Thomas are equally yoked, thus, when they
combine their anointed talents they become Gods winning team. Providentially, it
wasnt an accident that African- American News&Issues chose Team Thomas to
inaugurate a series highlighting Gods husband and wife teams that will be a
recurring feature on our Church page. Rev. Thomas, quick to get into the spirit of the
article uses a sports analogy to endorse the feature: When I reflect on being a
husband and wife team, Im reminded of a coach I once had whose motto was, No
practice. No Play.
Rev. Thomas, who loves writing, producing and acting in Biblical dramas (his favorite is
his Judas Iscariot role), is also active in other local ensembles. However, he swears he
isnt over dramatizing when he tells how he met his wife. To wit: I was a boy
of 12-years of age when I visited a church and saw a little girl (age 3), in a choir so
the audience could see her sing her first solo entitled, We Are Soldiers. Some
35 years later I visited another church and saw the same young lady singing a song
entitled, God Has Been Good To Me.
Pausing, Rev. Thomas looks toward heaven and smiles as he continues, A few months
later, at the end of an 11 a.m. service at Good Hope MBC, I proposed to her with a poem I
wrote based on Proverbs 18:22, entitled Im Glad I Found Ya. Eight months
later we were married. Beautiful beginnings notwithstanding, one only has to see
Team Thomas together to know that they, indeed, are equally yoked and for that reason they
have become a winning team for the Lord. |
