Bud's Eyeview by Bud Johnson

Do you really think?
OR: People who ponder are an endangered species

Woebeit we’re living in a magical era when one can cruise down superhighways of information to far away places with strange sounding names. One only has to click an icon on their personal computer to travel further and faster than the most avid reader ever dared dream.
Hell, you can even access virtual reality dimensions and parallel universes in cyberspace. Nevertheless, one has cause to pause and ponder why the world is populated with so many supposedly deep-thinking, highly-educated people, who are absolutely clueless and totally incapable of fabricating an original thought, or unique ideology.
Square business, I find it absolutely amazing that people considered “well-informed,” or in many cases brilliant, seldom question popular opinions once they become widely accepted by society… without an iota of validation. For sure I have a smorgasbord of pet peeves to chew on, but wee space precludes intellectual gluttony.

Inasmuch as my cranial system is connected to the Outer Limits of sanity, my Eyeviews defy conventional logic. But what the hell? Let’s venture into the Twilight Zone any way. The latest rumor in the ‘hood is that Black females have become the number one victims of AIDS.
I know you feel me, because daily I hear brothers and sisters espousing that unfounded AIDS data as if it’s gospel. Furthermore, there’s a city official who becomes almost irrational when I suggest that AIDS just might be another federal funds Trojan horse. For sure, all of you haven’t forgotten how former Mayor Kathy Whitmire used the “War on Drugs” Trojan horse to exploit our disenfranchised, impoverished, underserved and undereducated neighborhoods to qualify for federal dollars? Well, I’m talking the same game with a different name.
Surely, I can understand why people who dedicate their time and energy to a cause tend to defend their commitment once they buy into it. Hell, that’s why many people stay married to damn fools-- long after snapping to realize they were an even bigger fool… to allow the damn fool to fool them into saying “I do.”

It would be discourteous to surmise that dedicated people are easy to get stuck on stupid once they think they’re doing something productive, so I won’t go there. Then again, I can’t help but ponder how so many politically-astute brothers and sisters fail to question a theory that smacks of racism.

I’m talking the insanity of one malleable-minded enough to believe that Black males who indulge in homosexual activity while incarcerated, are responsible for the AIDS epidemic in the ‘hood. Recalling how adamantly White gays pleaded not guilty to the charge of spreading AIDS, I must inquire: What’s homosexual love got to do with AIDS? I’m sure Magic Johnson would quickly protest, “Not a damn thing!” Even so, isn’t that the very same thing the gay community told us when we confined AIDS to mostly gay White males?

Remember? Okay, now here’s something to really ponder. We concluded (after the mainstream media convinced us that AIDS wasn’t God’s wrath sticking it to sinful perverts), that homosexual behavior was not the major progenitor of the HIV virus. Right?
If you answered aye, then please explain what makes you now think that punked out ex-felons are bringing AIDS back home to their women folk today? Are you praying with me brothers and sisters? What I’m saying is, if homosexual activity no longer is blamed for AIDS (in the affluent, Gay community), how in the hell can homosexual activity among Black criminals be blamed? Mayhaps, prisons’ lack of hygiene has something to do with it???

If so, a few rolls of two-ply toilet paper could possibly eradicate AIDS. Hey, don’t get mad at me. I’m just pondering if you really think about what you’re saying when you say it?
After all, Homo sapiens are blessed with the ability to think logically. So please use the common sense that the good Lord gave you and think about the contradiction.
Unless Black homosexuality differs from White homosexuality, you just ain’t thinking if you believe Black ex-felons are infecting their women. For sure, Don Marquis (nee Robert Perry), wasn’t too far from the truth in 1917 America when he wrote, “If you make people think they’re thinking, they’ll love you. If you really make them think, they’ll hate you.”

But I’ll take that chance, because pondering has become a lost art. Ergo, I beseech you my brothers and sisters, have cause to pause and ponder on this thing called AIDS.
And while you have your thinking caps on, ponder this one for me: Why are you dumb enough to let crack addicts tell you that once you take a hit off that pipe, you’re hooked? Crack cocaine is far from the worse drug ever. I’ve actually known people to die trying to kick a heroin habit, but a crackhead is sober as soon as he or she comes down.

Hey, I’ve been in jail with spaced out crackheads (after a major sweep through the ‘hoods), and not once did I see any of them suffer any ill effects. Hell, a few hours in jail kicks a crack habit cold turkey. So why did Black America buy into the crack epidemic so totally? I bet you never stopped to think about that reality. Did you?

Throughout the day I hear reasonably intelligent, well-educated brothers and sisters regurgitate some of the most asinine, unfounded information one can imagine, simply because they heard it on TV or read it in a daily newspaper. Hey, sometimes they even believe what somebody dumber and less informed than they are tells them. It’s a small wonder why people-- who ponder-- are an endanger species, when they don’t even bother to think about what they believe, before they believe it. I wonder if anybody knows where I’m coming from?
