Federal class action discrimination lawsuit filed against San Antonio School District

SAN ANTONIO - A class action racial discrimination lawsuit has been filed against the San Antonio Independent School District in U.S. Court in San Antonio. “The lawsuit was filed on behalf of Everett Fuller and other African Americans who have been denied opportunities to become principals outside of East San Antonio. The suit is based on the district’s unlawful race-based personnel practices,” said Austin attorney Kelly Evans, the attorney in the suit.

Evans said that out of the 93 schools in SAISD, only 16 are headed by African-Americans. Of these, 13 are assigned to schools east of I-37 and 14 are east of I-35. “In other words,” said Evans, “There is a quota system in which 88 percent of all African-American principals are segregated in East San Antonio and have been systematically excluded from schools in west San Antonio.”
