The Sixth Annual Ministerial
Conference brings clergy, civic and business leaders together for unique, one-day
conference with Southwest Bank of Texas, Tuesday, May 21 -- 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at Texas
Southern University School of Education Building, 3100 Cleburne.
Regional clergy, civic and business leaders to speak and present information include: Rev.
Kirbyjon Caldwell, Windsor Village United Methodist Church; State Senator Rodney Ellis;
Paul B. Murphy, CEO and President of Southwest Bank of Texas; and James H. Carr, Senior
Vice President, Fannie Mae Foundation.
Sponsors of this year's conference include: Southwest Bank of Texas, The Fannie Mae
Foundation, Texas Southern University Economic Development Center, Harris County Housing
and Community Development Department, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development,
Texas Department of Human Services, and Local Initiatives Support Corporation.
Topics will include: Building Community Wealth; The Economics of Small
Business Creation; Financing Affordable Housing Projects; and Funding for Faith-Based
Social Service Programs. Successful results of previous Ministerial Conferences
indicates that the collaboration between Southwest Bank and area ministers makes a
difference in the development and revitalization of Greater Houston communities. In 2000
alone, the Southwest Bank of Texas Community Reinvestment Department reported the approval
of seven loans, totaling more than $2 million dollars to churches or other faith-based
organizations.
Each organization that received funding had attended at least one of the ministerial
conferences.
