Houston Area ministers to collaborate on receiving community funding

The Sixth Annual Ministerial Conference brings clergy, civic and business leaders together for unique, one-day conference with Southwest Bank of Texas, Tuesday, May 21 -- 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at Texas Southern University School of Education Building, 3100 Cleburne.

Regional clergy, civic and business leaders to speak and present information include: Rev. Kirbyjon Caldwell, Windsor Village United Methodist Church; State Senator Rodney Ellis; Paul B. Murphy, CEO and President of Southwest Bank of Texas; and James H. Carr, Senior Vice President, Fannie Mae Foundation.
Sponsors of this year's conference include: Southwest Bank of Texas, The Fannie Mae Foundation, Texas Southern University Economic Development Center, Harris County Housing and Community Development Department, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Texas Department of Human Services, and Local Initiatives Support Corporation.

Topics will include: Building Community Wealth; The Economics of Small Business Creation; Financing Affordable Housing Projects; and Funding for Faith-Based Social Service Programs.  Successful results of previous Ministerial Conferences indicates that the collaboration between Southwest Bank and area ministers makes a difference in the development and revitalization of Greater Houston communities. In 2000 alone, the Southwest Bank of Texas Community Reinvestment Department reported the approval of seven loans, totaling more than $2 million dollars to churches or other faith-based organizations.
Each organization that received funding had attended at least one of the ministerial conferences.
The conference is free, but seating is limited. Those attending should call 713/235-8885.
