Hispanics support Kirk 57.5% Blacks 83.9% while 56.5% of Anglos support Cornyn. The race was close in most regions across the state, although Cornyn led in Houston (54.7% to 32%) while Kirk led in the South Texas/Border area (52.1% to 38.7%). In his previous release, Montgomery characterized the minority vote in the Governor’s race this way, “There is a strong split along ethnic lines in this race, with Sanchez holding a strong lead among Hispanics (57.9%, compared to 37.3% for Perry) and Blacks (a 43-point margin over Perry), while Anglos go to Perry by 72.6% to 21.4%, more than 50 points.”
