| A tribute for a man of
strength, Abner Briscoe Walton, Sr. was held on April 6 at the Highland Gardens Church of
Christ, 2604 Hampton wih Bro. Edward Jamison, officiating. The celebration under the auspices of Ronnie Cauley, master of ceremony, consisted of congregation hymn, led by Bro. harvey Davis, scriptures by Bro. Jimmy Lee and prayer by Bro. Robert Foster. A poem was read by Sis. Dionne Breaux and a solo was rendered by Bro. Anthony Comeaux. After moments of reflections, Jamison gave the Words of Comfort and Bro. Juan Huffman gave the closing prayer, On the sunrise of February 10, 1917, Columbus and Jessie Lee Walton were blessed with a son, A. B. Walton in Calvert, Texas. He received his education through the 4th grade at a school in Calvert, Texas. He met and married Judy Farris in 1940. They were faithful members of the Chapel Hill Methodist Church in Calvert, Texas for several years. The Waltons, A. B. and Judy relocated to Houston, Texas and became faithful members of the Highland Heights Church of Christ. To this union, they had three girls and two boys. A. B. lost his first companion and friend, Judy in 1955 after 15 years of marriage. After encountering this traumatic situation of life with his strength in Christ, he reared five children without a wife. The Durham and Baker Families employed him for many years. He worked in many capacities such as chauffeur, handyman, hunter, and butler just to name a few. Also, he was well respected and loved by the children of those families. Until the day of his passing, he still communicated with the children, (Stewart and Malcolm Baker) who he helped to raise. He had a passion for deer and duck hunting, fishing, and horseback riding. His favorite horse was Jackie Boy. Later, A.B. Walton met and married Emma Hernandez on October 2, 1972. To this union, one child was born, Abner Briscoe Walton, Jr. Bro. A. B. Walton worked faithfully at the Highland Gardens Church of Christ. He was a source of Christian strength and wisdom to all who knew him. He blessed the church with his exceptional singing abilities, and his knowledge about business was an asset to the church. He served the church in assisting with many major leadership decisions that had an impact on the spiritual growth of the church and its members. He leaves to cherish his memories six daughters, Shirley Ann Walton of Las Vegas, NV; Judy Montgomery of Angleton, Texas; Jessie Montgomery (Eulas) of Houston, Texas; Betty Jean Walton of Houston, Texas; Tracey Jean Stewart (Byron) of New Orleans, LA; Tammy Harbin of Richmond, Texas; two sons, A. C. Walton of Angleton, Texas, and Briscoe Walton of Houston, Texas; four sisters, Amy Abrenica of San Francisco, CA; Willie Jenkins of Houston, Texas; Bertina Givens of Willington, CA and Pauline McNeal of Houston, Texas; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren; family and friends. Sunset of Wednesday, March 27, 2002, he entered into eternal rest at the Triumph Hospital. Judy, Emma and a son, Charles Ray preceded him in death. |
