Scouts Takes 2nd in Area First Aid Meet The Leopard Patrol of Lilly Grove Missionary
Baptist Church recently made history while competing in the Sam Houston Area Council of
Boy Scouts of America Annual First Aid Meet held at St. Lukes United Methodist
Church. Not only did they demonstrate their skills in crisis management and in providing
emergency medical assistance, they met their personal goal of surpassing the record set by
predecessors from Lilly Grove who placed 3rd in 1993. Lilly Groves Troop 686, is a
part of the W.L. Davis District of the Council. The scouts participating were Antoine
Johnson, Vincent Robertson, Terron Adams, John Grigsby, Prindle Kennard, Robert Cossey and
John Logan. The competition included approximately 30 patrols of 5-7 boys each. The Leopard Patrol won 2n~ place in the overall competition. It is the highest level a W.L. Davis patrol has achieved in the 11-year history of the Meet. Participants were challenged to identify solutions to five first aid situations and teams actually treated the problem during the competition. The W.L. Davis District primarily serves youth in the African American community and includes Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts at over 40 churches, schools and community centers. The Leopard Patrol prepared during a lock-in at Lilly Grove which their Scoutmaster, Ervin Johnson feels was a key to their success. They planned, prepared and were committed to winning says Johnson. |
