| DALLAS, TX -- The Dallas International Festival
announces a rich and varied program that showcases the finest global arts groups in North
Texas. This free festival takes place on Tuesday-Thursday, June 18-20, 2002 at the Majestic Theatre, 1925 Elm St., beginning at 7:30 pm. Each night offers a different line-up of performances that illuminate the artistry of cultural art forms as represented through local immigrant communities. Just in time for some exotic holiday shopping, the second phase of the 2002 Dallas International Festival is an International Bazaar scheduled for the weekend of November 9 - 10, 2002 on the campus of the St. Mark's School of Texas, 10600 Preston Road. An exciting global salon will offer an International Marketplace, Children's Workshops, global holiday music and ethnic cuisine. The three evenings of festivities weave a sense of ritual through a Parade of Nations, Calls to Unity, a special presentation and poetry readings. The entertainment continues through intermission with performances by Mariachi Rayos de Guanajuato on Tuesday, the Olin Tontitzin Aztec dancers on Wednesday and the Sufi Drummers on Thursday. Wednesday, June 19 - Europe; Ireland: Emerald School of Irish Dance; Spain: Daniel de Cordoba; The Americas; USA: Mahogany African-American Dance Ensemble; Native American: Ollin Tonaltzin Aztec Dancers; Bolivia: Vision Andina; Asia - China: Mei Hsiu Chan Classical Dancers; Turkey: Folklore Dancers; Vietnam: Vovinam Vietnamese Martial Artists; Africa: Ayubu Kamau African Drum and Dance Society; Finale, Blarney Brothers (Celtic). Thursday, June 20 - Drum Circle -Africa: Nigeria: Igbo Dancers; Eritrea: Ertrean Youth Performers; Sudan: Sufi drummers; The Americas: Peru: Hermanos Ejuguitza; USA: Bahai Youth Workshop; Chile: Voces & Danzas de Chile; Europe: Ireland: Hibernia Dance Company; Asia: Filipino Folk Arts Theatre; Ke Anuenue Polynesian Revue, Finale, Aarohi (Indian Bollywood-style band). After Party, Salsa with Criollisimo. The theme for this year's festival is Unity is Peace. The Naturalization Ceremony takes place on June 18 from 6:00 to 7:00 pm at the Majestic Theatre. The kick-off for the 2002 Festival begins with the City of Dallas honoring international community leaders at a reception in the Flag Room on May 29. "Thirty percent of the North Texas population is made up of immigrants and their children. This year it is even more urgent that we promote cross-cultural understanding and share the diverse ethnic heritages that make up today's North Texas communities," says Dallas International's founder Anne Marie Weiss-Armush.
