Paul Quinn College trustees appoint new president
Dallas --- May 4, 2002 Paul Quinn College Trustees unanimously appointed Dwight J. Fennell, Ph.D. as the institution's president during the 130th Commencement ceremony.
"We were honored to have a distinguished group of business, civic and education leaders serve on the search committee. We narrowed the list to 38 outstanding candidates, five were interviewed and we have selected the person who is best qualified for the position." Said Paul Quinn College trustee and search committee chairman Reverend E. L. Wright.
According to Peggy Sterling, vice president of the D/FW Hub for American Airlines, and a member of the search committee, "The recruitment and selection process were very comprehensive. We invested in one of the most highly regarded executive search firms in the country, Heidrick & Struggles, to assist with the process."

Over the past twelve months, Dr. Fennell has served as interim president of Paul Quinn College and his accomplishments included increased enrollment and retention of students, new grants and philanthropic gifts as well as several improvements to the physical plant.   Prior to his interim appointment, Dr. Fennell was Paul Quinn's provost from 1997 to 2001, where he was responsible for academic and student affairs. He was also instrumental in overseeing facilities management and took an active role in grantsmanship.

Bishop McKinley Young, Chair of the Paul Quinn College board of trustees said, "Dr. Fennell brings over twenty years of experience in education, and the vision, motivation and energy to lead Paul Quinn College into the future. Dr. Fennell is the right leader at this critical time in the history of the College. It is very fitting that this announcement comes on the day when we hold our 130th commencement ceremony to celebrate the achievements of Paul Quinn College graduates."
